Kings Mill Hospital

Ptolemy was invited to create a diverting
external facade by Swanke Hayden Connell
Architects and Skanska. The aim to significantly
reduce ‘threshold anxiety’ for visitors to the
hospital (especially the young). A broad range
of colours were graded across the facade
using materials such as back painted spandrel
panels, powder coated metal, transparent film
and coloured render. The result, a kaleidoscope
of rich colour that can be seen from a, giving
the building an inviting presence, an ‘Artwork
on the Landscape’.
